Dr. Masura Kurihara: Dr. Kurihara is widely recognized for his great contributions in the fields of desalination and water reuse. He is Senior Scientific Director of “Mega‐ton Water System”, Funding Program for World Leading Innovation R&D on Science & Technology, Japan, and a Fellow of Toray
Industries, Inc. A former IDA Director, he is the recipient of the IDA Lifetime Achievement Award and has
also been honored with two Presidential Awards from IDA.

Mega-ton Water Systemとは
栗原氏（JDA名誉会員、東レフェロー）が統括するMegatonWater System（メガトン水システム）は、世界最高レベルの低圧海水淡水化逆浸透膜エレメントの大型化を目指し、１メガトン（1日100万立方メートル）の造水量を、浸透圧発電やエネルギー回収等の要素技術などを盛り込んだ環境、エネルギーに配慮したインテリジェントな海水淡水化プラントを構想した研究プログラム。現在、メガトン水システムを構成する技術の開発及び実証が進んでいる。
